Taramosalata (Fish roe salad - meze)

Photo taken from Athinorama Umami Taramosalata There are also the Greek classics, think something like a dip but instead of using nachos or vegetables to eat them we use bread. Taramosalata is one of those dishes.   It is roe fish blended into a creamy pink dip of pureed potatoes with parsley, lemon juice, and finely chopped onion (optional).   In meze, this is one of the first dishes that it is served.   In taverns, they always bring it along with salad, tzatziki, and tahini.   We will talk about the last two later.   Well, let’s see our recipe…   Ingredients 2 kg tarama (fish roe). 1 large potato or two small ones 450gr of Greek bread 1 tsp of shredded and dried onion 1 cup olive oil The juice of one lemon (medium size) Tarama is the hardest ingredient to find, so it is a good idea to look at groceries that import Mediterranean food. It is usually sold in larger jars, but you can store the remainder in the freezer for mon...

Bitter Chocolate Yogurt Ice Cream

Last weekend, physically, I was not feeling very well. Nothing seemed to taste good so I decided to create an ice cream which would have a strong taste.  The original recipe did not include honey, but since the ice cream really tasted bitter I decided to add a tablespoon of honey to give it a more balanced flavor.

I was quite pleased with the result. The only “negative” aspect of this recipe is that if you keep it in the freezer over night, it becomes hard and you have to microwave it for 20 seconds before you serve it.

Bitter Chocolate, Yogurt Ice Cream
Makes 4 scoops

Ingredients
100gr dark chocolate (74% cocoa)
200gr light Greek style Yogurt (2% fat)
1 tablespoon honey
½ teaspoon vanilla essence

Preparation Method
- Melt chocolate in the microwave. (Stir every 30 seconds)
- Combine yogurt, melted chocolate and honey; microwave for another 20 seconds until you get a smooth texture.
- Add vanilla; stir to combine.
- Freeze mixture. For better results, stir every 15 minutes. Repeat 4 times.
- Serve with fresh chopped strawberries.

  23. It's amazing how your mind controls or is in sync with your behaviour. Look at how she was feeling unwell (physically) and decided to try something new. I guess in the end it made her feel better after she conditioned the desert to suit to her taste. She also gained more energy when she created the desert. So if you are feeling unwell, physically and mentally, do something fun or creative, that should boost your morale and your enhance your energy drive. You will definitely feel better about everything else and yourself. That's how I relate this to Psychology.

  24. Your dessert recipe looks terrific and decadent (even though the yogurt makes it healthier). I agree with Glenna above. Sometimes you have to "pull yourself up" by trying something new or different (like creating a new recipe) to refresh your mind and regenerate your body. Sometimes going outside your "comfort zone" can change your perspective and you can better cope with problems in your life. But sometimes folks will do things that are self-destructive and do bad things to deal with the problems they have in their lives; that just leads to even more problems!! So we should find ways to add a little "honey" (figuratively) to our lives. ~Michelle M.

  25. Looks yummy, can't wait to try it. Dark chocolate is heathly comparing to other things. Yogurt sounds really good with dark chocolate. Its crazy how when we not feeling really good physically, one thing we go for is chocolate. But the truth is that chocolate has this certain chemical stuff that stimulate that brain which help reduce stress.
