Taramosalata (Fish roe salad - meze)
Photo taken from Athinorama Umami Taramosalata There are also the Greek classics, think something like a dip but instead of using nachos or vegetables to eat them we use bread. Taramosalata is one of those dishes. It is roe fish blended into a creamy pink dip of pureed potatoes with parsley, lemon juice, and finely chopped onion (optional). In meze, this is one of the first dishes that it is served. In taverns, they always bring it along with salad, tzatziki, and tahini. We will talk about the last two later. Well, let’s see our recipe… Ingredients 2 kg tarama (fish roe). 1 large potato or two small ones 450gr of Greek bread 1 tsp of shredded and dried onion 1 cup olive oil The juice of one lemon (medium size) Tarama is the hardest ingredient to find, so it is a good idea to look at groceries that import Mediterranean food. It is usually sold in larger jars, but you can store the remainder in the freezer for months. Peel the potatoes and cut t

ReplyDeleteEftychiaHello all, I Know this happened some time ago, I would like to say I send my thoughts and warm regards to all that have experienced this life changing ordeal physically, spiritually, mentally or all the above. I know the devastation you must feel. I hope your Cyprus has since then recovered a Great Deal, most importantly I pray that those that have suffered a great deal of loss are coping better perhaps through means of supportive family/friends and even a good therapist would definitely be valuable.
ReplyDeleteEfy, I'm a Mom as well. A Mom of three.. My heart breaks when I hear of such unjust to little innocent children, senior citizens or all human beings that are good hearted with no hate or malice in them.
Friday December 14 as you may know by now, Adam Lanzer walked into a school and brutally massacred over ten children under the ages of seven as well teachers and a Principal. I pained for the children and the heros that died. It really had a huge impact as I had a heavy heart and cried in pain for what the children physically, mentally, the kids had to endure as well the teachers/principal. Not to mention just like in your Country Cyprus, Connecticut as well American and World WIde, many of us feel the loss. Its an acts of violence on humanity. This has got to stop. I hope you & your loved ones are all well.

It is a tragic and unexplainable time when instances such as these happen on any ones soil, especially when deaths have occurred. My condolences are set out to the families affected at such a heart-rending time. I hope that external outlets were willing to step in and aid you in any subsequent way. It is exceptional that you are staying strong for the sake of your family and although the grieving process varies for everyone, the stages are the same and it is important that you and anyone around you have a strong support system to express those emotions freely. When any life is taken away unexpectedly whether it is someone we know or not it is essential for you not to isolate yourself from the situation. I can relate to the confusion and desperation to change these horrific circumstances, but it is best to speak to someone whether it is through personal counseling, close friends or external sources.
